Jeonju Cinema Project

Jeonju Cinema Project, marking the sixth year since it switched to the feature film financing/ production program in 2014, presents four films this year. Among the four films, Shades of the Heart by Kim Jong-kwan, the Breathing of the Fire by Ko Hee-young, and ISADORA’S CHILDREN by Damien Manivel are the new films of the directors who have expanded the world of their films with the Jeonju IFF or who had been found at the Festival. And Somewhere in Between by Jeon Jeehee is the second film produced with the collaboration project of Jeonju IFF and Myungfilms Lab after A Stray Goat (2016). All of these films are the measurable achievements that carry on the tradition of Jeonju Cinema Project, which has contributed to winning a number of awards at international film festivals and to extending the Korean independent film market.
Somewhere in Between, which has been preparing for two years as a collaboration project of the Jeonju IFF and Myungfilms Lab, is a heart-warming human drama about the process of restoring the relationships between people set in one of the forgotten provinces. the Breathing of the Fire is a new documentary by the award-winning director Ko Hee-young at the Jeonju IFF, and it depicts the story of the potter, who is struggling with fire for a lifetime to create a vessel that he has long dreamed of, and the life of his daughter who has shared his passion to learn his craftsmanship for a long time. Shades of the Heart, by Kim Jong-kwan who has preserved his unchallenged position in the field of Korean independent film with Worst Woman (2016) and The Table (2016), is an omnibus film that describes people and spaces of our time with his unique urban sensibility and poetry.
ISADORA’S CHILDREN is a new film by Damien Manivel of The Park (2016) which won the International Competition Award in Jeonju IFF 2017. It is a graceful depiction of the life of four women mediated by the work of legendary dancer Isadora Duncan.
