Review
Even though it’s been a long time since One Fine Spring Day was released in theaters, many people still remember the film for its two quotes: “Do you want some ramen?” and “How could love fade away?”. Though it’s unclear when it went wrong, but the first line which most people remember as “Want some ramen before you leave?” refer to the butterflies that flutter with the beginning of love, while the second line is associated with the true nature of the strange and ever-morphing emotion that is love. To Eun-su, who has already experienced a failed marriage, love is something that changes and moves, but for Sang-woo, who is new to love, love feels unchanging and forever. In the end, One Fine Spring Day is at once a painful love story as well as the story of how someone who is new to love grows and matures. Even when we, as viewers, clearly know this truth, the love within this film is still beautiful and heartbreaking. Lee Young-ae and Yoo Jitae boast their beautiful youth in the film, and the scene where the two break up under delicate cherry blossoms that look as if they may be whisked away with the wind at any moment makes one’s heart ache.
