Overview

Seville, 1977. Reme has a son, Miguel, who is going to university. He suddenly confesses that he wants to enter a contest for young singers. At a time when homosexuality is a crime, Reme will end up getting involved in the LGTBI movement that in Andalusia, paradoxically, was created within the Church.

Review

1977, Seville, Spain. A devoted mother in her fifties, Reme has a son, Miguel, who is about to go to college, and she hopes he will go to law school and help raise her family. But contrary to her mother's wishes, Miguel wants to enter a youth singing contest and faces opposition. Unable to give up his dream of becoming a singer, Miguel becomes acquainted with a homosexual community by chance, sings at a club where they gather, and eventually becomes involved in the LGBT movement that was formed in Andalusia. In an era when homosexuality was considered a crime, Miguel is sent to prison and his mother ends up fighting for gay rights for him. In November 1975, with the death of Franco, the dictator who oppressed Spanish society for nearly 40 years, suppressed desires were unleashed in various fields, and a movement advocating for the rights of sexual minorities began. This is a film that unfolds a scene from the modern Spanish history through a cheerful and touching comedy. (CHUN Jinsu)
