Shades of the Heart

Director_ KIM Jong-kwan

Korea 2019 85min DCP color/b&w feature Fiction
Review

Chang-seok prepares to publish his novel and meets people. He learns about the past of publishing company employee Yoo-jin and finds out about photographer Sung-ha’s struggle to save his sick wife. He also talks to the bartender Ju-eun about writing and notes. Maybe all stories can be his novel. This film combines all of director Kim Jong-kwan's style in the past. The boundaries between reality and fantasy, life and death, and fact and fiction are all broken down. Mi-young and Chang-seok are having a talk at a very old cafe. As the scene changes, faces and stories of the past fill the new scene with wonder. The end of the film is like that too. Since everyone bears a wounded soul. [LEE Sang-yong]
