This 70-min animation from 1942 is an epitome of lyricism filled with beautiful yet plaintive images. Animals of the forest gather together to watch the birth of a fawn named Bambi. Thumper the rabbit delivers this news to the owl and all the animals celebrate together. Bambi learns about life in the forest from Thumper and befriends a young skunk named Flower. The good times turn sour however. The winter arrives and a cruel hunter kills Bambi’s mother. It’s springtime again and animals fall in love. When a big stag named Ronno attempts to force away beautiful Faline, Bambi puts up a brave fight and defeats Ronno. We see the children of Bambi and Faline in the film´s second half. This classical film is completed through Bambi’s life and the cyclic processes of nature as well as images of the harmony and music in the forest. [LEE Sang-yong]
