´Observational Film # 7´ by Kazuhiro Soda who adheres to the method of observation documentary in accordance with strict principles. The camera observes the inhabitants of Ushimado, a small town in Seto Inland: Wai-chan, 86-year-old senior and one of the last six fishermen in small boats, madame Kumi wandering on the beach every day, Koso running a seafood shop left by her dead husband, and a cat that is a friend of everyone in town. Inland Sea is faithful to the mission of ´observation´ and follows the traces of a community culture getting older with modernization. Soda´s working principle aims to a natural process that excludes artificiality without pre-research, script, narration and subject prior to editing. The camera keeping the distance is shaken, leaving the villagers and losing the coolness at the last moment. [JANG Byungwon]
