A new film by Gustav Deutsch of [#i_]Shirley: Visions of Reality[_i#](2013). In the opening of it, we can hear the voice of Deutsch. "Imagine, we´re sitting at home, the screen has been put up, the projector is in place and we´re watching some family films together." [#i_]How We Live - Messages to the Family[_i#] made its journey with amateur film recordings gathered from archives in Austria, Italy, the Netherlands and England. Deutsche introduces a broad media-archeological array in a form of letter writing, from diver media including color home movies, video, cellphone images and even from Skype. The film recordings that make up[#i_] How We Live - Messages to the Family [_i#]are like moving postcards that contain various aspects of life in the 20th century, but as a tool of everyday life they become also a way of talking to the medium of cinema in the film.
