[#i_]Prototype[_i#] is a film focused on the televisual device which was tested in September 1990, when the hurricane hit Texas. The film begins with dynamic images, including photographs taken in Galveston, a busy port city at that time, affected by the hurricane. Soon the opening shot turns into a richer, more abstract three-dimensional image. One of the main motifs of the film is the repetition of images of TV screen fixed in space. Experimenting with his unique hybrid style mixing Godard´s aesthetics of the apparatus and Paik Namjune´s multi-screen narrative, Williams continues the aesthetic exploration shown in his short films. It leaves room for a question if he really needed 3D vision, but his use of 3D could be a meaningful attempt in that it shows the effect beyond the integration of the 3D images into the immature narrative of the film.
