Combining the elements of documentary, Surrealism, and trans-cinema, Ben Russel has found his original expression style on both paintings and films. [#i_]Good Luck [_i#]is composed of two chapters with the images taken from a copper mine in Bor and the gold mine in Surinam. It offers the observations of labor performed in extreme environments, with the Interviews and the portrait photos in black and white. Russell develops a bold narrative about the two environments, contrasting of the cold underground in Serbian copper mine with the sticky mud in the jungle tropics of Suriname. He presents the similarities and differences between the two regions linked by a network of global capitalism in terms of manual labor. Criticism of the human life broken by the devastation of intensive labor, and perspective for people living in isolated places. [JANG Byungwon]
