In order to put an end to his drug addition, young Thomas joins a community of former addicts who live isolated in the mountains. They use prayer as a way to cure themselves and put themselves to hard labor. Reluctant at first, Thomas gradually submits himself to a life of discipline and abstinence, and finds friendship in the community of men. Directed by Cedric Kahn, who is also famous for his acting talent, the film follows the subtle transformation of Thomas´ daily life. One of the most impressive moments occurs when Sister Myriam (superbly portrayed by the legendary German actress Hanna Schygulla) reprimands Thomas for lying after he confidently answers her questions. The changes that Thomas goes through within the community mark his growth as a person. The film won Best Actor Award at this year’s Berlin Film Festival. [LEE Sang-yong]
