La Ciotat in southern France. The high school students, including Antoine, attend a writing workshop led by novelist Olivia. Antoine, attempting to write a criminal thriller novel, Antoine is more interested on contemporary fears than nostalgia on the past. About twelve students from a multi-cultural family, question the identity lost in French society. Laurent Cantet creates the tension of unstable thriller, showing the students who are accusing Arab students of becoming ISIS supporters, the discord between Antoine and Olivia, and the exchange of old and new generations. Following [#i_]The Class[_i#](2008) and [#i_]Foxfire[_i#](2012) that presented the interest on the youth, [#i_]The Workshop[_i#] considers the problem of reality in the premodern industrial space. The scene of workshop debate on politics, society, and culture leaves a deep impression. [JANG Byungwon]
