[#i_]Season of the Devil[_i#], a 234-minute rock opera film in black and white, embodies the style of Lav Diaz, [#i_]Season of the Devil [_i#]began in the late 1970s when Marcos founded a militia to suppress the dissident Communists. The power of this edict also works in a rural village, Gibson, which is occupied by militia leaders Ahas and Teniente. The poet Hugo becomes alone when his wife Lorena leaves to organize medical activities. He must fight the ghost of guilt and helplessness. This musical with politic metaphor shows the lyricism of Jacques Demy style rather than Broadway. Lav Diaz has been working on production, direction, screenplay, editing as well as music composition, that invokes he was engaged in music before. [#i_]Season of the Devil[_i#], dedicated to ´all victims of martial law,´ creates ambivalent feelings about the trauma of history. [JANG Byungwon]
