A German man drifts into a rural village in Luxemburg. The villagers seem to shun him at first but they soon offer their help. The man finds work and slowly integrates into the community, even starting a relationship with a young woman. He doesn’t share his dark secrets but slowly comes to terms with the reality of the village. He’s not the only one with a past to hide. He comes face to face with people with a dark past. The film starts off as a tale of a fugitive criminal, and then moves on to explore the secrets of the village, thereby adding to the overall tension. [#i_]Gutland[_i#] is a variation of the thriller and noir genres that presents a dry reflection on men in a bleak community. [LEE Sang-yong]
