The second feature film by Ted Fendt of [#i_]Short Stay[_i#](2016). [#i_]Classical Period [_i#]describes young men and women of a reading group in Philadelphia. They gather to exchange ideas about literature, architecture and music. Their conversation does not end in the living room, in the kitchen, on the street, as if in a contest for knowledge. The topic is Dante´s Divina Commedia. A flood of words sounds like an empty discourse that can be part of a thesis. Fendt seeks to discover subtle moments in the intellectual debate of the characters his friends play, by the beauty of 16mm film images that fascinated him. Like[#i_] Short Stay[_i#], the characters are surprisingly simple in the film. They think that they are evaluated according to how much they know, how many writers they can quote. Everything currently happens in this film may have happened 100 years ago. [JANG Byungwon]
