Baek Seungbin’s directorial debut from the early days of digital production, the film depicts the concerns of the youth and passes the intersection between fantasy and reality. The director’s second film I Have a Date with Spring takes places a long time afterwards, and further emphasizes fantasy. The three overlapping episodes in this film unfold strange adventures of different generations. Initially Lee Gwi-dong’s script provides a pretext and the entire story seems to be nothing more than the director’s deluded imagination. Yet the energy induced at the end of each episode roars like the minds of the oppressed. If the essence of cinema lies in offering an escape from reality through imagination, this film provides suitable answers. Whether we believe it or not, we must agree that this is what directors do best. [LEE Sang-yong]
