The film introduces a female artists with multiple identities. Hip-hop musician M.I.A. is defined in various ways: documentary/music video director, activist, immigrant, and citizen of the 3rd world. A daughter of the founder of the Tamil Resistance Movement, Matangi Arulpragasam immigrated to London from Sri Lanka when she was 11. Aspiring to become a documentary director, she frequently filmed her family and herself, and the footage provided useful sources. However, this is neither her own work nor a success story about someone who starts with nothing and later becomes a star. Steve Loveridge presents a touching portrayal of the origin of activism, the basis of music, and the point of contact between life and arts. For those aspiring to become more than just artists, the film could be taken as a story of a revolutionary. [JANG Byungwon]
