Mediterranea is a social conscious film about the African immigrants. The exodus of African has become an important subject in recent Italian films. While Fire at Sea(2015) by Gianfranco Rosi deals with it as a documentary, Mediterranea deals with it hyper-realistically. Ayiva and Abas leave their home, Burkina Faso, for Italy. They endure the harsh journey in hopes of a better life. The two have different desires. Abas fancies the European women on Facebook while Ayiva is more interested in making money. When they arrive in Italy, however, they face the inhospitality, the unfriendly community, and the rage of the immigrants. Mediterranea is about the illusion of paradise following the journey of suffering. The scenery of failed ´Italian Dream´ depicts the dangerous barrier between individuals and community.
