A masterpiece Aleksey German worked on for 7 years in during the 10 years artistic house arrest period. Khrustalyov, My Car! is the story of military doctor General Klenski who got arrested in Stalin´s Russia in 1953 accused of being a participant in a ‘doctors´ plot’. This film fully utilized German´s style; the chaotic storyline, the long take, images formed with deep focus shot, surrealistic style, etc. It was screened at the Cannes Film Festival. However, journalists were disconcerted with the unconventional film format of revenge on the Soviet Union history. Critics found the outrageous satirical gods difficult to understand. Martin Scorsese who was the Cannes Film Festival jury said the German´s movie was a masterpiece worth the Palme d´Or. A work of black humor and unclear narrative during nightmarish Stalin Russia.
