Four British Pakistanis heads to Pakistan to attend a friend’s wedding. When in Afghanistan, they were subjected to heavy bombing by the United States. Due to the air strike, the city is in chaos and the three are captured by the Allied Forces. Being handed over to the US military, they are sent to Guantanamo. Mistaken for a Taliban militant, they spend in jail for two years. Based on a true story, Winterbottom cleverly delivers the evidence objectively crossing over fact and fiction using dramatization and newsreel. Also, the scenes of inhumane treatment and harsh interrogation were used to present the pain of reality as it is. The film ends with showing these three men living in London after they were set free in 2004. Winterbottom sends a message to this audience that reality and prison is not that far apart. Guantanamo exists in real life. [Lee Sang-yong]
