Mismatched Nose is one of Song Gil-han’s biggest works that exemplifies his style. Working together with Im Kwontaek for the first time, this film handles the conflict between ideologies. Mismatched Nose sets the scene with a former policeman and a communist partisan’s lifelong grudge. The police sends a homeless living in a secluded alley in Seoul to a rehabilitation center?the man, Song Giyeol, is a former policeman who has pursued the partisan for over 30 years. The ill-fated relationship begins when Song Giyeol finally meets Baek Gong-san, the communist partisan also known as ‘Jjakko’. Traveling from past and the present, the film portrays a criminal war-based plot with a narration caracteristic of Song Gil-han and Im Kwontaek, in particular Song Gil-han’s use of time and narrative arising from a single action.
