In celebration of Independence Day also known as North Korea’s anniversary of liberation, a Slovenian rock band named Laibach has been invited to perform. slavoj zizek, Slovenian philosopher was one of many who have introduced Laibach band. Once arrived in Pyongyang, Laibach band showed well-defined performances with the help of North Korean schoolgirls. However, the band soon faces challenges with North Korean’s restrictions and censorships. One public official even suggested one of the band members to take off his bandana that represents Hilter and their songs were being exempt due to censorships, yet the band tries to give their best performance. The formality of both documentary and music video, Liberation Day is not only North Korea’s recent cheerful documentary but also draws outsider’s objectified attention closer. [LEE Sang-yong]
