A new short by Brazilian Director Ana Vaz, who received attention for her short Occidente(2015), There is Land is an experimental documentary that explores the relation between a colonialist and native, predator and prey, human and land. A young woman hides behind tall grass. Far away, a voice is repeating. “There is land!” Soon follows a chase. In the moments of discovery like those of Columbus, the camera is focuses on the native’s reaction. There is Land is a poetic 10 minuted film that feels like watching a 16mm film. [JANG Byungwon]
