The film opens with a scene almost unbearable to watch. However enough patience it will be revealed that the images of the street are on a CCTV being played backwards. To the time before the tragedy happened. After the chilling rologue comes a completely different scene, one of conversations of people on the streets and at the plaza. The corny jokes and dramatic moments display the human condition and social relations of present-day China. Where does public indifference in the face of tragedy come from? Instead of investigating the cause, Holy Bible II raises the question of subconscious for each situation. A repetitive narrative using a mixture of different images makes this documentary an experimental video as well. The epilogue replays the prologue backwards. Forward and backward, Holy Bible II questions the ethics and methods of reenactment, while connecting separated, seemingly unconnected images. [JANG Byungwon]
