Overview

Interwoven throughout the Bad Seeds’ filmed performance of the new album are interviews and footage shot by Dominik. The result is stark, fragile and raw, and a true testament to an artist trying to find his way through the darkness.

The stylist of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford(2007) and Killing Me Softly(2002), Andrew Dominik´s One More Time With Feeling follows the avant-guard rock band Nick Cave & the Bad Seed’s sixteenth studio album ´Skeleton Tree´’s recording process. In the beginning of the movie, Nick Cave states that he is losing his voice, and the audience is left with the question of why would a great musician say such thing. The death of Nick Cave’s fifteen years old son was the motivation behind starting the film; he had decided that he would need to create something out of the sorrow that he was experiencing. The 3D black-and-white film describes a man who is delusional with loss meanwhile the structure of the film is a lively montage. Hazy images contribute to the 3D film on a whole other level, together with Nick Cave’s voice, reminiscent of the cry of a wild animal. [JANG Byungwon]
