    A religious fable, The Student features a boy in his 10’s named Veniamin who is religiously determined. Veniamin only states from the religious scriptures and his stubbornness are noticed when the question rises regarding school’s swimsuit policy. The deeper it gets into religious aspects, the more Veniamin’s biased tendency is appealed. Without any support from his teachers only such question arises: what is the origin of distortion and corruption? The Student illustrates mix up mystification of how religion being the core cures to human sufferings.
    While bringing a German playwright, Marius von Mayeburg’s work to the screen, Director Kirill Serebrennikov had casted actual students for the film to maintain and convey the originality?leaving a powerful impact to the viewers. [JANG Byungwon]

Kirill SEREBRENNIKOV

Born in 1969, in Russia. Having graduated from Rostov State University with majors in physics in 1992. His films were screened at Cannes Film Festival, Locarno Film Festival, Rome Film Festival, and the Warsaw International Film Festival where his film Yuri's Day(2008) received the Grand Prix.
