All stories originally began from one person´s words. Ali and Zuhal are orphans left in this big world. Their situation become worse and it becomes hard for them to sustain their lives around people with no compassion. They decide to build a secret base. At first, the secret forest was their paradise, but as times goes by, they feel isolated. Can a true sanctuary exist outside the civilized world? With Nuri Bilge Ceylan and Zeki Demirkubuz, Reha Erdem is one of the major players in New Turkish Cinema. He uses poetic images and allegory to talk about one’s home and lost family. The film follows the young couple caught up in violence and then changes into a dilemma between nature and culture. Mystical and surrealistic, the vast nature and exploration of the characters internal words are all present in this great work by Erdem. [JANG Byungwon]
