  • Review

A new documentary directed by Methew Heineman, known for Cartel Land(2015). This is the story of Raqqa an underground journalist who goes against ISIS of oppression in Syria. It displays the essence of journalism that attempts to reveal the truth. To the IS, who wage media war to appeal their legitimacy, Raqqa was a scourge. He chose journalism to protest against IS. What is he holding on to in order to keep his beliefs, knowing his family is struggling because of him? Raqqa had to leave his homeland and faces decapitation threats but continues on. City of Ghosts meets the requirements of a good documentary. The accessibility, a persistent search on the topic, a deep resonant storyline, and etc., everything is perfect. It is a documentary film that throws an ethical question, and keeps the audience on the edge of their seat. [JANG Byungwon]
