The wife of the oldest son in on the way home after grocery shopping. The eldest son, Gitae, buys a big bag and poison from China. He rides home in a rented van. The second son, Seongil, comes with his girlfriend. A mother, her third daughter, fourth son, the youngest son, and a monster who used to be the oldest son live in the house. They hold the last birthday party. The mother tells her children to stay in the monster’s room for 10 minutes. They talk about their wounds and scars in front of the monster. As time goes by, the family gets drunk, and their miserable family story is revealed one by one.
Lee Seungwon’s debut film is filled with unpredictable energy. While the ridiculousness of each character makes us laugh, it emits sad energy. With an original approach to trauma, the film makes us think about the reality of a family, the source of all evil. [KIM Youngjin]
