Jeonju Cinema Project

  • ‘Jeonju Cinema Project(JCP)’, meeting its fifth edition is going to support 5 films instead of 3 this year. This transition is mainly due to considerable success of last year’s JCP films: The First Lap ; color:#000000; italic:Y; bold:N;}won Best Emerging Director Prize at Locarno Film Festival and Silver Astor for Best Screenplay at Mar del Plata International Film Festival, and The Poet and the Boy ; color:#000000; italic:Y; bold:N;}received favorable comments at Toronto International Film Festival. Most of all, Our President ; color:#000000; italic:Y; bold:N;}was not only successful in terms of criticism but it was an unprecedented hit for a documentary, which made it possible to expand the project.
New films of domestic directors who became renowned through Jeonju International Film Festival and international directors who sympathized with the aesthetic direction of the Jeonju International Film Festival and frequently visited Jeonju were selected for Jeonju Cinema Project 2018. They are proud names of directors who will connect past, present and future of the Jeonju International Film Festival. The Best We Can ; color:#000000; italic:Y; bold:N;}directed by Alejandro Fernandez Almendras is an interesting black comedy with seriousness, Camila Jose Donoso’s NONA. If You Soak Me, I Will Burn You ; color:#000000; italic:Y; bold:N;}is a feminism oriented intense drama, and Korean films Winter's Night ; color:#000000; italic:Y; bold:N;}of Jang Woo-jin and The Land on the Waves ; color:#000000; italic:Y; bold:N;}of Lim Taegue were made with excellent location shooting to convey peculiar stories of ordinary people. A Good Business; color:#000000; italic:Y; bold:N;} directed by Lee Hark-joon is a documentary that vividly captured the hidden side of the human rights movement for North Korean defectors.
