With the meaning of showing special films, 'Carte Blanche' shows My Twentieth Century and Simon, the Magician of Ildiko Enyedi, who is a judge for the 18th Jeonju IFF and a director of the 18th Jeonju IFF, as well as The Table, which was starred by Jung, Eun-chae and directed by Kim Jongkwan, who is a judge of short films.
My Twentieth Century won the Glden Cmera of Cannes Film Festival, which is only given to first-time directors, and noted as the most surprising debut film of the year. Simon, the Magician not only won a prize from Locarno International Film Festival, but also won grand prizes at numerous film festivals. It is an opportunity to take a look at the world of the director, Enyedi, who already has produced numerous films and yet, always win a high recognition whenever she releases a new film.
The Table is a film reflecting styles of the director Kim Jongkwan, who tries to deliver emotions and build stories with rising actors regardless of their scale. The work integrates styles and production abilities of Kim Jongkwan, who delivers strong characters and performance in a limited space, as well as performance of Jung Eun-chae, who delivers a delicate and yet, strong first impression. Through this film, audience can witness methods for expanding horizons of independent film production in South Korea.
