PROGRAM - World Cinemascape - World Cinemascape: Spectrum

World Cinemascape: Spectrum

  • Wolrd Cinemascape: Spectrum embodies multidimensional aspects of world cinema by inviting the most number of works. It presents a total of thirty films, including twenty two feature films and seven short films. With a high intention to show the breadth and depth of world cinema, this year´s lineup is composed of films from various regions including Asia, Latin America, Europe, and North America as well as diverse genres and styles.

Alex Ross Perry, who is known as a rising star of American independent films and has been introduced to Jeonju International Film Festival, revisits Jeonju with Golden Exits with his unique identity. His works summarize the main flow of world cinema. Mister Universo ventures for an exit of ruined life by hovering the boundaries between fiction
and documentary. Big Big World fully reveals the impossibility of naturalistic life that transcends its civilization. Nightlife depicts an appalling portrait of the era that shares lives of others through technology. Everything Else illustrates a lonely daily life of a stubborn middle-aged woman with the power in audiovisual language.

We also focused on the rise of ´teenage films,´ which is one of the trends in world cinema. Numerous films introspect the era with eyes of youth. A Belgium film Home describes anxiety experienced by this generation with self-destructive tone. The Student is a film about school apocalypse by a teenage boy bounded by doctrines of the Bible. An animation My Entire High School Sinking into the Sea metaphorically expresses a sinking world. A Fantastic Woman, which is a revenge thriller by Sebastian Lelio, known as a wonder boy of Chilean film, and Marjorie Prime, a film starring a middle-aged woman who is seized with memories of love, display a broad spectrum of world cinema.
