This is Macbeth, a bloody Roman Polanski’s work. The film, made in the 70’s, is featured with intensive flow laced with greed and ill-fated choices, and leaves a strong impression at the end. Scotish general Macbeth returns to his home town after winning a battle with Norway. He met three witches in his way back, who foretell his rise to King of Scotland and his subject Banquo’s son would succeed him. Ardently welcomed by the residents, Macbeth begins planning to be the king. As predicted, he rises to the throne, but fails to remove Banquo’s descendant. Macbeth acquires a new prophecy from the trio and is wrecked with paranoia. Polanski added psychological interpretations to Macbeth and well described distorted shapes of people gripped by uncontrollable desires. His interpretation presents how strongly a Shakespeare can be produced in a cinema. (LEE Sang-yong)
