Inspired by Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, this film depicts the irony following a commotion that takes place overnight. Vicente, who has returned to Chile from L.A., spends the summer partying. The reckless and slightly lonely 20-year-old goes to a party with a girl he meets on the beach. As drugs and alcohol take over, the car that he is in runs someone over and kills them. In court for the hit-and-run, the testimonies of those involved vary. Buddies suddenly transform into enemies and the truth becomes vague. Much Ado About Nothing uses the motif of an actual hit-and-run accident involving a politician’s son. Alejandro Fernandez Almendras asks how weak the truth is in the face of power and capital as he did in To Kill a Man. A story about the whereabouts of social justice, the manipulation of truth, and a guilty conscience. (JANG Byungwon)
