Review

“To be amazed is to interrogate, to question.” The film explores how to define spectatorship in cinema. In the film, different concepts of spectatorship intersect within a story. What is more cinematic? Citizen Kane on a mobile phone or soccer game on a cinema screen? What is a film of uncertainty? How diverse is amazement? What is the right and duty of audience? Questions stretches everywhere in this intellectual essay. It goes into the nature of watching a film through images on screen and audience responses. Through interviews with film theorists Laura Mulvey and Andre Gaudreault, film critic Olaf Moller, and filmmakers Guy Maddin and F.J. Ossang, it covers different genres and styles, essays and manifestoes, and expressionism and surrealism. (JANG Byungwon)
