Harold Michelson is known for his storyboards for Hollywood masterpieces, including Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds and Mike Nichols’ The Graduate. People might have seen his storyboards in many film-related books. Harold’s wife, Lillian Michelson, was a Hollywood film researcher who kept records of various films. Harold and Lillian: A Hollywood Love Story is a summary of their works and their roles in the industry as well as a story about how two individuals grew and spent time together. The interviews from Harold’s colleagues are filled with their respect for him. The directors and storyboard artists of today acknowledge Harold’s works as artistic and creative as that of a director. The film reminds people that there are other important figures in Hollywood industry besides the famous actors and directors. By just looking at Harold’s storyboards, one can deeply understand and experience a film. More than anything, Harold and Lillian: A Hollywood Love Story is an important documentary on the process of filmmaking. (LEE Sang-yong)
