Review

Astrid, an acclaimed comedian, is pregnant with a second child with her husband who is a producer. When it becomes the news, people show a great interest in her pregnancy. When Astrid learns that the baby will have disabilities, her inner conflict begins. 24 Weeks depicts the complicated mind of a woman on their pregnancy. With the fine craftsmanship of the director, the film closely examines the familiar story of what is going on in the mind of the protagonist. The film portrays an interesting conflict between having an abortion and making humane efforts to overcome the situation with her husband. Astrid finds it harder to be on stage for her show. She used to make fun of herself on stage, but she cannot do that anymore as her inner conflicts escalate. Her show becomes a process of confronting who she really is. 24 Weeks is directed by Anne Zohra Berrached who has exquisitely depicted psychological states of women through her previous film Two Mothers. 24 Weeks is selected for the main competition for 66th Berlin International Film Festival.
