Everyone knows that the competition to pioneer space was intensified after the Cold War. OPERATION AVALANCHE combines the conspiracy theories on the subject and director’s wild imagination. The goal of the space exploration of the US and the Soviet Union was to conquest the moon. During the time, the CIA agents try to find Russian spies inside NASA. While the characters go through a great deal of troubles, the film tells episodes from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, which displayed the best shooting techniques of the time, and interesting conspiracy theories about Apollo program. Matt Johnson not only directed the film, but also wrote and acted as the protagonist. There is no doubt that OPERATION AVALANCHE is an aggregation of his multiple talents. OPERATION AVALANCHE can be viewed as a political allegory. The film satirically tells the recollection after the Cold War with black humor by exploring what are true or not about conquering the moon.
