Noha, Randa, Soukaina, and Hlima are prostitutes in Morocco. They strongly bonded in friendship. With intermittent envy and jealousy, they live together and take care of each other. The film Much Loved is not simply about prostitutes. Moroccan actress Lourbna Abidar was attacked by the unknown for acting in this film, which was deemed to have tarnished the honor of Muslims. As the film exposes Moroccan prostitution business, it became a social issue and was banned from screening for allegedly harming the Islamic values. Ayouch doesn’t focus onlt on social taboo and contradiction but raises fundamental questions on human existence through souls in pain for survival. Feminine bondage is viewed in stark contrast with cold reality. (LEE Sang-yong)

Noha, Randa, Soukaina, Hlima. They’re whores, objects of desire, flashes of flesh. United in their womanhood, they keep their spirits and dreams alive. They’re loved, unloved and too much loved.
