An audacious cinematic adventure of Perrone. A filmmaker in a poor Argentine town works on a samurai film split into three chapters. In the first chapter, a samurai murders the son of
a brothel owner and the father swears revenge. In the second, a woman loves a samurai but is forced to become the lover of a rogue. And in the last, a samurai returns from war and doesn’t recognize his wife. With revenge, love, and lost memory, the film shows Perrone’s magical image craftsmanship. By using string motifs by Samuel Barber and melodies of Chet Baker, the film restores a nostalgia for age-old silent films. Enchanting rhythms of shots, vertical scratches, loss and tragedy, and the fetishism towards black-and-white silent samurai films make breath-taking spectacles. (JANG Byungwon)
