In 1974, news reporter Christine Chubbuck committed suicide on air. Kate starts following the trace of Christine. The film won the Documentary Special Jury Award for Writing at Sundance. Through Kate, the film tries different experiments. Basic elements of the film are performance and a pursuit on a character. When Kate visits the place of Christine’s death, camera captures her every single move. As Kate assimilates to Christine, barriers between documentary and feature, or fiction and non-fiction are destroyed. While dismantling and restructuring a story, the film remains to be true to its nature. Adopting the genre of melodrama, the film maintains contemplative distancing to the events of emotions and stimuli. The film has a simple beginning but shows unending variations with the director’s great talent and intelligent creativity. (LEE Sang-yong)
