Review

Based on Roberto Bolano’s masterpiece 2666. The narrative takes place in an imaginary place called Santa Teresa. It rejects linear flow and weaves loosely together ‘different stories’ that seem unrelated. A serial killer, a detective working on the case and a professor carry on with no introduction or connection. Nelson Carlo De Los Santos Arias completes a fable as he flows between the evolution of evil amidst people’s indifference, the times where one is lost in a maze of good and evil, the villagers’ mistrust and fear. The base of this unique form is ‘clash’. A montage of clashes is seen in all aspects of expression, such as halting/moving, being fixed/being active, literature/cinema, and text/images. The film flows elegantly between documentary and fiction and avant garde speech to ask if evil can be eradicated. (JANG Byungwon)
