Dusu works at Garak Market and lies to his family that he got a great job. Dusu’s boss Yang who is into playing Korean chess for money realizes Dusu has potential when he advises him on moves. At his request, Dusu plays against and beats the evil union chief and becomes a celebrity in the market. One day, he runs into his first love Minju on his way home. He helps her with a protest movement to eradicate the homeless but things get out of hand when it coincides with the stories of the people he works with. He is then given the mission to clear the field of playing chess for money at Tapgol Park. Garak Market Revolution follows the character’s individual stories and then eventually brings them together to peek interest. It seems to approach the audience with a cute, comic book-like setup but it has a substantially critical attitude toward social issues. (KIM Youngjin)
