After being discharged from military service, Jeonghyeon looks for a job but it’s not easy. He tries all kinds of part-time jobs like passing out flyers on the street and being in clinical trials. He tries to get back together with his ex-girlfriend who shuts him down. The problem is, her love life isn’t going so well either. Her boyfriend wants to become a professor but it doesn’t work out, which leads to them quarreling. Beyond the Blue is a story of young people who are trying lead a stable life. Their shabby life is filled with depressing circumstances. The director throws the characters onto the screen by using a kind of inverted conversations and makes you look at their situation. There, you see the scars, the rage and the pain that lies behind their daily lives. The film comes across as an Lim Changjae type essay. (LEE Sang-yong)
