The film focuses on an instructor Raffaele Pinto at the University of Barcelona. Following objections of his wife on his teaching method and responses of students on his ideas, the director raises ethical questions in the academy of philosophy. While teaching the concepts of classic literature, Pinto falls into chaos due to unusual relationship with his students. Saying “To teach is to seduce”, Pinto build his plots from materials in life. As a protagonist and borrowed image of reality, Pinto has been a professor of literature for 40 years. Other characters are non-professionals selected from the school. Though it is a fiction, the film goes near the truth of mind through organic plots. Intelligent thinking, emotional vibration, repeated images captured through glass, and narrative hovering around fiction and documentary reveal Guerin’s cinematic world. (JANG Byungwon)
