A drama about American writer David Foster Wallace. The main story is the experience of David Lipsky when he stayed with Wallace for five days for interview 12 years before Wallace killed himself. The film depicts the road to visit Wallace, how a timid, fastidious writer talks about his life and artistic inspiration, conflicts of life, and recollections. Lipsky (Jesse Eisenberg) and Wallace have a love-hate relationship like that of Mozart and Salieri. The director didn’t intend to finish a biographical film on Wallace. By drawing a trajectory of aspiration, jealousy, aversion, and sympathy on the genius writer, the film becomes a study of man. As an observer, Lipsky shows highly sensitive emotions and Wallace (Jason Segal) shows perfect description of Wallace’s appearance and character. (JANG Byungwon)
