A second feature of the director of August Winds that illustrated the life of a fishing village. In this film, Mascaro tells a story of people kicked out of civilization. A charismatic bullfighter Iremar gets along with a dancer Galega and her two sons. As the textile industry becomes popular in Brazil, Iremar considers to change his career. The film observes how the nomadic life of Brazilian rangers changes by industrialization and civilization. The destruction of traditional life testifies the nation’s current issues. Mascaro brilliantly goes deep into the primitive way of living. In a ethnographic discovery and fictional story, the film achieves both dramatic storytelling and documentary-like reality.
