When his mother remarries, 16-year old Ari is sent to his estranged father who is a useless drunk and a junkie. Ari gets a job and meets old friends who have changed and has a crush on his childhood friend. But he gets involved in a fight due to her boyfriend’s jealousy. Sparrows is Ari’s coming-of-age story. He experiences troubled times and is lost in his relationships with his family and his friends. He is also exposed to violence. The shocking situation Ari and his girlfriend face in the climatic scene evolves into them unable to perceive reality because of booze and drugs. The growing pains amplify the shock and this situation is a powerful depiction of an immature being.
