Cinemafest

This year’s Cinemafest unfolds with affable eloquence of events both big and small that arise in everyday life, as well as dramatic struggles in the aftermath of momentous incidents. As the title suggests, Jonah Hill’s Mid 90s tells a coming-of-age story of a boy during the 1990s. In Queen of Hearts , we witness a woman’s affair with her teenage stepson. This highly anticipated work is a tension-filled drama of desire, avarice and hypocrisy. Both the island lifestyle in the Japanese film My Father, the Bride and the apartments in And Your Bird Can Sing evoke a cultural landscape of life. In Flesh Out , we meet a young woman forced to gain weight before her impending marriage as per traditions. A film about a man working on a popular Palestinian soap opera, Tel Aviv on Fire explores marital tension through the farcical blending of fiction and reality. Amanda is about the endurance of the people left behind after an unexpected incident and capturing how they sublimate suffering. The other works abound with accounts of people refusing to avert their gaze from suffering. Pet Names tells a love story. Hanalei Bay , which starts with the death of a son, proves that there is a reason to go on even in the depth of despair. Ruben Brandt, Collector is filled with fascinating characters. Carmine Street Guitars is a documentary about everyday life at the famous New York guitar store, frequently visited by musicians like Bob Dylan and Patti Smith.

* The film with the special mark (  ) will be installed at the Expanded Plus. (Located at Factory of Contemporary Arts in Palbok)
