Review

After crossing a foul-smelling market carrying a handful food for the evening, a woman prepares dinner, soon realizing that it´s already past midnight. For Lee Hyo-jong´s family, tonight´s dinner is somewhat special. In other words, there is a reversal in the film . However, this ´reversal´ or ´turn of events´ is not for some cinematic effect. Rather, it is a testimony for being and not being. It is a story about a woman who exists but cannot find her own place, and about a tradition that no longer exists but that still imposes on the woman. The film depicts the reemergence of the tradition and a woman who becomes excluded from life. Through a short episode and deception the film reveals the identity of this weight that endlessly suppresses the woman. This ´identity´ of the weight can be glimpsed in the playground sequence, when Lee Hyo-jong falls into her world of dreams. In her dreams, she is feeling the wind under the sun, enjoying a swing. However, she awakens from her dream as she falls on the ground. When she awakens, she finds that the watermelon and food for dinner have all been buried. It turns out the small things in life are what oppress her.
