Born in 1951, the Bronx. He has a reputation as a director of controversial cinema. He moves into his fourth decade of filmmaking with continued work in the US as well as European projects. His filmography includes Ms .45 (1981), King of New York (1990), and Bad Lieutenant (1992). His most recent film Siberia (2020) was shown at the official competition of Berlin International Film Festival.
